What clients say about me
"I would just like to express how pleased I have been with the service by Debbie Coyne. I feel she has gone above the call of duty in helping me with my recent matters and is probably one of the most professional people I have ever dealt with."
My experience/ cases of note
I have specialised in employment law for over 7 years and have a wide variety of experience acting for both individuals and corporate clients from SME’s to blue chip PLC’s on a range of both contentious and non contentious employment issues. I have particular expertise in the retail sector and service industries and a wealth of experience in both the education and healthcare sectors.
I have extensive Employment Tribunal experience dealing with a number of complex unfair dismissal and discrimination issues, including disability discrimination, whistleblowing, age discrimination, sex discrimination, breach of contract and redundancy. On non contentious issues, I regularly advise employers on general employment queries (for example, handling redundancies, poor performance issues, long term absences, grievances and dealing with disciplinary matters) and keep our clients advised of new developments in employment law and the potential impact on their business. I regularly review and draft service contracts for senior staff and directors, consultancy agreements, policies and procedures and contracts of employment. I regularly advise on the consultation requirements and processes involved in negotiating with staff on the changes to terms and conditions of employment . I also advise corporate clients and individuals, particularly senior staff, on their exit packages and the drafting and negotiating on compromise agreements. I also regularly assist our corporate team in relation to the employment aspects on the sale and purchase of businesses and changes of service providers, particularly in relation to TUPE issues.
I speak conversational German and represent the employment team on the Firm’s German Desk which offers help and advice to German clients requiring assistance on UK law.
I am a regular presenter of seminars to clients at our GD/HR seminars and also provide bespoke seminars to individual clients.
What I do when I'm not at work
I like to play netball and go to the gym. I also love travelling and spending time with my family and young daughter.
