Liberating the NHS - The consultation begins
Phase two of the Government reforms of the NHS has commenced with the publication of its 70 page consultation document (Liberating the NHS: Transparency in outcomes – a framework for the NHS, published 19 July 2010). Read on for further details about the consultation.
Hot on the heels of the Government’s 56 page White Paper proposing reforms of the NHS (Equity and excellence: Liberating the NHS, published 12 July 2010) the Department of Health has now issued its 70-page consultation document. The document details more than 30 questions and further details on the key proposals in the White Paper.
The Consultation Period
The consultation period commenced on 19th July and concludes on 11th October 2010. There is a ten page consultation response document that can be downloaded for you to complete your responses on (a copy can be downloaded at www.dh.gov.uk/en/Consultations/Liveconsultations/DH_117583).
Regional Events
Alternatively you can make your views known by attending one of the Department of Health regional events which will be aimed at NHS staff and patients (details of these to be announced shortly on the Department of Health website (www.dh.gov.uk).
Should I submit a response?
This is a public consultation which means anyone can submit a response. The responses will be printed on the Department of Health website but your personal details will not be printed.
This is a real opportunity for GPs, PCTS and other healthcare professionals to shape the legislation that will govern this enormous change in the NHS so if you want your say it is essential that you submit a response.
Next Steps
The Government proposes to report responses to the consultation towards the end of October/early November 2010 and a Health Bill will be introduced in the Autumn.
In the meantime a number of our GP clients who are about to complete property leases have raised concerns about rental reimbursement and reimbursement of running costs or where the PCT is the tenant in view of the White Paper’s proposal to abolish PCTs from 2013. We have advised our clients of ways to mitigate these risks. If you are a GP in a similar position please contact Anne Fairhurst to discuss on 0161 234 8807 or email annefairhurst@georgedavies.co.uk
