DIY Counselling

When a relationship goes through difficulties or comes to an end, it is often hard to talk about it. But talking can be the key to the survival of the relationship. Counselling helps couples explore and understand relationship issues, giving an insight into how to change for the better. Unfortunately too few people turn to relationship counselling, preferring to soldier on alone

Relate, the Relationships charity, also uses new technology to offer relationship support and counselling services by phone, email and even SMS text!

But can it really work? Surely a computer is no substitute for face-to-face contact with a trained expert? It would be easy to dismiss the initiative, but it could provide an alternative for those of us who simply don’t want to talk a third party about private relationship issues.

Family Law expert at George Davies, Kim Aucott says “Counselling can help couples to stay together, and (in conjunction with solid legal advice) it can also make separation easier. There is no substitute for face-to-face counselling, but the reality is that it is not for everyone. People might prefer the anonymity, flexibility and choice of online counselling and there can be nothing to lose by trying it.”
