Senior partner Anne Fairhurst commented "We were thrilled to be shortlisted in six categories and win two awards at the ceremony. The community initiative award is particularly pleasing as it is great to be recognised for the hard work that everybody at the firm puts in to give something back to the local community. We were also proud to see one of our "home grown" new solicitors scoop the prize for trainee of the year."

The George Davies Deal Club, developed by lawyers from our Corporate team, won the Insider award for Innovation in Dealmaking 2011. The GD Deal Club has been created to assist individuals and businesses who are looking for acquisition and investment opportunities and to circulate the deal opportunities that are notified to the firm by corporate financiers, accountants and insolvency practitioners, to the firm’s clients and contacts.

Mark Hovell, managing partner at leading Manchester law firm George Davies, has been crowned Managing Partner of the Year at the 2011 annual LawNet awards. Mark was nominated by the firm for his “inspirational approach” and “fearless attitude to change”.  LawNet is the leading law firm network and was established in 1989 to enable a collaborative, non-competing national network where independent law firms could access big firm resources and benefit from collective purchasing, shared knowledge, best practice and expertise.

A number of lawyers at George Davies were personally recognised in this year’s directory including Real Estate Partner Caroline Hanratty, Associate Sandra Morrison who is a dual qualified English and German lawyer, construction lawyer Catherine Kay, Managing Partner Mark Hovell for his work in the sports law arena and Senior Partner Anne Fairhurst for her work in the healthcare sector.
 
The practice areas which George Davies were rated in were commercial litigation, construction, corporate and commercial, education, employment, family, finance, healthcare, intellectual property, insolvency and corporate recovery, media and entertainment, personal tax, trusts and probate, real estate and sport.

The Legal 500 rates and reviews all UK law firms. Firms complete a submission detailing the work they have completed over the last 12 months and then the Legal 500 researchers contact the firm’s clients and contacts to get their views on the firm.

Insider Dealmakers Awards 2010

Our corporate team won Small Deal of the Year Award at the Insider Dealmakers Awards; achieving well deserved recognition of their work on the merger of the cremation division of Hyde based Furnace Construction Company Limited with American corporation Matthews International. After advising on the 2009 Insider Deals of the Year in Lancashire, Yorkshire and the North East, it was brilliant that one of our deals was recognised by our peers in the North West the following year.

Our Employment Team has won North West Employment Team of the Year in the Corporate INTL Magazine Awards 2010, giving global recognition for their outstanding work.  The international magazine generally showcases London and Off Shore firms, so it was a great achievement to have been recognised.
